Innovation in Action: Expanding Opportunity Through Driving Simulation Technology
At MillarRich, we believe innovation should always serve a purpose: helping people build fuller, more independent lives.
That’s why we’re proud to celebrate an exciting milestone for one of the individuals we serve.
Josiah B. recently completed training using SANDI (Simulation for Advanced Neurodiverse Driver Instruction), and he is now well on his way toward earning his driver’s license.
This is more than a personal achievement—it’s a powerful example of what can happen when the right support, technology, and opportunity come together.
As the first provider in Tennessee to adopt SANDI, MillarRich continues to explore new ways to expand independence for the individuals and families we support. Developed by Neurodiverse Technologies Inc. in partnership with researchers at Vanderbilt University, SANDI is an AI-powered driving simulator designed to help individuals build driving readiness in a safe and supportive environment.
We strive for excellence by meeting people where they are, then walking alongside their journey with them. We are excited for the future!

For many people, learning to drive can feel overwhelming. Anxiety, sensory overload, or difficulty processing fast-moving situations can make traditional driver education challenging. SANDI creates space to learn differently. It allows individuals to practice, build confidence, and develop skills before getting behind the wheel on a public road.
For Josiah, that opportunity made a difference.
His completion of the program represents progress toward greater independence and more freedom in daily life. Access to transportation opens doors—to work, community involvement, and everyday experiences many people take for granted. Learning those skills in a setting designed for success helps make those goals more achievable.
Looking Ahead
MillarRich is also expanding the opportunities of this program.
We hired and have begun training our first neurodivergent Virtual Driving Readiness Instructor, creating a new role where a neurodivergent adult can lead simulation-based instruction and help guide peers through the driver readiness process. This is an exciting step forward because it creates a new pathway into meaningful employment while also building peer-led support for future learners.
This reflects what MillarRich is all about—finding practical, person-centered ways to help individuals thrive. Whether through residential support, family services, employment services, or enabling technology, our goal remains the same: creating opportunities that lead to greater independence, confidence, and connection.
Josiah’s achievement is worth celebrating. It also reminds us that when we invest in innovation, we invest in people—and that creates possibilities far beyond what we once imagined.
Congratulations, Josiah. We’re proud of you, and we’re excited for what comes next.
